Few places in Andalusia announce themselves quite as dramatically as Ardales, a small whitewashed town in the province of Málaga whose surrounding landscape reads like a geology lesson written in limestone. The town itself sits above the Guadalhorce river system, looking out over a reservoir-threaded valley that the locals call El Chorro, and the combination of water, rock, and altitude gives the area a character entirely unlike the coastal strip an hour to the south.
