At the southern tip of Gran Canaria, Maspalomas occupies a stretch of coastline that feels genuinely unlike anywhere else in Spain. The town itself is a loose confederation of neighbourhoods rather than a compact urban centre. Further west, the area around the lighthouse at Faro de Maspalomas is quieter, the dunes pressing close to the shore and the pace slowing considerably.
