Few German cities carry their history as visibly as Dresden. Rebuilt, bombed, rebuilt again, and now standing as one of central Europe's most architecturally compelling destinations, the Saxon capital sits in a broad valley of the Elbe, its baroque skyline reflected in a river that has shaped the city's character for centuries.
